May 23, 2018·The 3/4 chisel was obtained through LV and had less distortion. The only minor negative comment is that although it is marked 3/4 it is sized metrically and is about 1/32 wider. If you want to pare a 3/4 dado for pine obtained at Home Depot, this tool won't work. But it would work well for typical hardwood thicknesses.

Delta 1/2 in. Mortising Chisel and Bit Set-17-004 - Home Depot

The chisel arrived sharp & ready for use. I didn't use the inner drill bit, since I found that it wandered a bit off center. Instead I predrilled all holes with a 1/2" dowel bit. I made an wooden oak handle for the Delta chisel, and just used a hammer to neatly square off the holes. Did the whole project without having to resharpen the chisel.

A Guide to Chisels for Woodworking

Mortise Chisels In the classic tradition of mortising, a chisel is malleted into the wood and then levered out to remove waste. Bench chisels don't have the thickness to withstand the levering out, nor the stout blade angle to resist abuse, nor the length to put leverage behind the levering out.

Chisel and chisel sharpening suggestions : woodworking

A bit more expensive than the Narex's, but if you get a 1/4, 1/2 and an inch size, that is sufficient for sure to start with. I.e., IMO better to have a few good chisels than a wide range of sizes of lesser gooder ones. Just because a mortise is 5/8s and all you have is a 1/2 doesn't mean you can't cut the 5/8 mortise.

Blade Honing Guide Review | Sharpen Chisels | Woodworking

Jun 01, 2012·PROS: Because of the jig’s low center of gravity, it’s especially good for honing short blades as well as thick tools, like mortise chisels. CONS: When honing wide plane blades (2-1⁄2″ or so), the guide’s wheels end up so far apart that the guide only works on honing plates or very wide bench stones. Won’t work with tapered-shank ...

Are narex chisels any good?

My experience with Narex chisels is mixed. In regards of the steel, the quality of the material and the machining was very good on every chisel I had or still have. It takes and holds a very good edge and the sides on the 8116 series chisels are very thin and they can reach in tight spaces with ease.
