The Village Carpenter: Wagon Vise Design

Aug 27, 2011·I liked the setup with the hand wheel .. as shown on the maker's website. But then I realized that the only difference between this vise and the traditional tail vise was the loss of a side clamp, which I'd seen Klaus use effectively to cut dovetails. That said, wagon vise does make for a …

Wagon Vise Design. Based on sage advice from friends, I bought soft maple for the base of my bench rather than poplar. I wasn't able to get 16/4, so I'll need to glue up some boards, but this is a much better choice in the long run. In the meantime, I came up with what I think is a good design for a wagon vise. It's one that I can add to the ...

Wagon vise vs. tail vise - by Ben LumberJocks ...

Nov 16, 2016·I have a wagon vise like Mos. I can put narrow drawer sides in the opening for dovetails. I can also put them in my leg vise which is what I usually do. I recently built a Moxon vise and here’s why. My bench top is 32” high and that is the perfect height for me for planing.

Will Myers Wagon Vise - by BubbaIBA LumberJocks ...

Jun 12, 2021·Will Myers Wagon Vise. The new Will Myers wagon vise arrived yesterday. There is no room to mount on either bench, I have a couple of options both are kinda good. I can of course build another bench. The downside of that is no place to put it until one of the other benches is sold or given away. The other option is making a new slab for one of ...

Dec 21, 2008·The vise holds its position when you clamp a panel and want to plane across the grain but don’t want to bow the work , a delicate balancing act that would cause my old hillbilly wagon vise to slip. Oct 08, 2012·The filled-in section above the wagon vise didn’t make sense to me, so I made the vise the width of the bench. This centered the screw on the wagon vise block and with the dog holes down the center of the width of the bench. This also makes the skirt around the bench symmetrical. My bench body is entirely of beech.

Sep 19, 2006·The vise is a screw that is fixed to a bench dog and the whole mechanism is integrated into the benchtop. There’s no dovetailed assembly to build around a tail vise frame. You just need a mortise in your benchtop. A really big mortise , something big enough to bury a small animal in. (If I understand the root word correctly , that’s a joke.)

No need to “build up” or sandwich additional wooden boards onto a smaller wood nut to construct your final vise end cap or arm. The vise hole is even counterbored for you so that your wagon or shoulder vise can screw in closer to the bench top. Modified Roubo Is the Ultimate Workbench - FineWoodworking

Synopsis: When Jeff Miller built a small bench about a year ago to test two new vises from BenchCrafted, he little realized he would love the vises so much he’d soon be building a full-size bench to live up to their potential. The leg vise and wagon vise held more securely and were easier to adjust than any other vises he had used. So to showcase these powerhouses, he built a modified Roubo ...

Jul 19, 2013·I am fashioning this after the benchcrafted wagon vise which is a departure from my original plan of the Maguire vise but this one is simpler with fewer parts.
